Order intake at the Nordex Group more than doubled in the first half of 2018 to 2.1GW, from 933MW in the year-earlier period, boosted by demand in Brazil, where the OEM recently obtained its largest-ever order for a 595MW wind project in a north-eastern state.
The manufacturer’s order intake in the second quarter alone also jumped, to 1.09GW, from 565.5MW in the second quarter of 2017.
Together with a further order for 123MW, Brazil with 718MW was the largest individual market for the German-Spanish group during the second quarter.
In addition, an order for 147MW was gained in South Africa.
Emerging wind markets such as Brazil, South Africa and Mexico have been central to the Nordex Group’s strategy since the 2015 merger between Nordex and Acciona Windpower, building on the latter’s already strong position in Latin American markets in particular.
The OEM was particularly successful with its Acciona Windpower brand, with the AW3000 machine accounting for roughly 88% of order intake.
